Republican Congressman admits trying medical marijuana while in office

May 24, 2016. Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA) told marijuana activists that he tried medical marijuana to relieve his arthritis pain… and it worked. Rohrabacher, an avid surfer, said he has been unable to surf for the past year and a half due to severe shoulder pain resulting from over three decades of surfing. Two weeks ago, Rohrabacher said, he tried a topical oil-based marijuana treatment and that night was “the first time in a year and a half that I had a decent night’s sleep because the arthritis pain was gone.” For full story, see Washington Post article: A GOP congressman says he used medical marijuana while in office and Cannabis Radio recording: GOP U.S. Congressman Admits Medical Marijuana Use.

Democrat and Republican Representatives fight to make medical marijuana more accessible for our veterans

May 19, 2016. Representatives Earl Blumenauer (D- OR) and Joe Heck (R-NV), are trying to make it easier for qualified veterans to access medical marijuana in states where it is legal by allowing their V.A. doctors to discuss or recommend it. Today, the House of Representatives passed the amendment that Blumenauer and Heck authored for the FY 2017 Military Construction, Veterans Affairs and Related Agencies Appropriations bill. The amendment was co-sponsored by Sam Farr (D-CA), Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA), Tom Reed (R-NY), Dina Titus (D-NV), Barbara Lee (D-CA), Ruben Gallego (D-AZ), and Jared Polis (D-CO).

“I commend my colleagues for showing compassion and supporting our wounded warriors,” said Blumenauer. “Today’s vote is a win for these men and women who have done so much for us and deserve equal treatment in being able to consult with, and seek a recommendation from, their personal V.A. physician about medical marijuana.”
