Republican Congressman admits trying medical marijuana while in office
May 24, 2016. Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA) told marijuana activists that he tried medical marijuana to relieve his arthritis pain… and it worked. Rohrabacher, an avid surfer, said he has been unable to surf for the past year and a half due to severe shoulder pain resulting from over three decades of surfing. Two weeks ago, Rohrabacher said, he tried a topical oil-based marijuana treatment and that night was “the first time in a year and a half that I had a decent night’s sleep because the arthritis pain was gone.” For full story, see Washington Post article: A GOP congressman says he used medical marijuana while in office and Cannabis Radio recording: GOP U.S. Congressman Admits Medical Marijuana Use.

Democrat and Republican Representatives fight to make medical marijuana more accessible for our veterans
May 19, 2016. Representatives Earl Blumenauer (D- OR) and Joe Heck (R-NV), are trying to make it easier for qualified veterans to access medical marijuana in states where it is legal by allowing their V.A. doctors to discuss or recommend it. Today, the House of Representatives passed the amendment that Blumenauer and Heck authored for the FY 2017 Military Construction, Veterans Affairs and Related Agencies Appropriations bill. The amendment was co-sponsored by Sam Farr (D-CA), Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA), Tom Reed (R-NY), Dina Titus (D-NV), Barbara Lee (D-CA), Ruben Gallego (D-AZ), and Jared Polis (D-CO).
“I commend my colleagues for showing compassion and supporting our wounded warriors,” said Blumenauer. “Today’s vote is a win for these men and women who have done so much for us and deserve equal treatment in being able to consult with, and seek a recommendation from, their personal V.A. physician about medical marijuana.”

Medical Marijuana Now Legal in Ireland Under a Five-Year Pilot Program
Last week, a legislation that will allow citizens to get limited access to medical marijuana under a five year pilot period was signed by Simon Harris, Ireland’s Health Minister.
The legislation of medical marijuana has progressed in many places across the globe over the last few years, especially in Europe. However, Ireland has adopted a more conservative approach and did not allow patients to access medical marijuana until lately.
The 5-year pilot program allows Irish doctors to prescribe medical cannabis products that meet approval set out in the legislation. This also permits Licensed North American producers to enter the Irish market.
Nonetheless, the medical marijuana program will only allow limited access for patients after standard treatments have failed to solve problems relating to epilepsy, chemotherapy, and multiple sclerosis. The legislation’s wording is ambiguous and gives medical professionals the power to decide if the use of medical marijuana is justified on a case-by-case basis.
Signing the legislation, Harris said that the purpose of this program is to facilitate compassionate medical cannabis access where conventional treatment has failed. Harris maintained that it would be the medical consultants’ ultimate decision in consultation with patients to prescribe a cannabis-based treatment for patients under their care.
